78. The Society Islands

I have spent over a month in the Society Islands. And the plan is to stay here another couple weeks before I continue west towards Tonga and Fiji. But I seriously doubt that I will ever feel ready to leave. In fact, I would go as far as saying that this area has been my favourite place yet. It’s got everything. Natural beauty, secluded anchorages protected by healthy reefs, sharks, sting rays, luxury resorts, a city, markets, hikes and the friendliest population that I have ever met. Literally everyone greets you with a ‘Iorana’ and a smile that makes you feel truly welcome in their remote paradise. I could go on describing this place but I think I’ll let a collection of pictures do the job instead.

  1. Hello, my friend! I’m so happy for you! French Polynesia’s Society Islands sound riveting and look absolutely stunning! Love that the people are so friendly and welcoming, too! The pics are stellar— keep ‘em coming and please write to us more! Love your posts! News here: splashed my new boat (SV Charm) a few days ago — so excited! Lots to tell! Fair winds! ~ Chelle

  2. Hi there Chelle. And thanks. Yes, this place is fantastic but I’m afraid I’ll have to move on eventually. My youngest son, Daniel, is coming to Fiji at the end of August and it’s 1,800 Nm to go there. Almost two weeks sailing. I may have to go straight there.

Great to hear about the new boat. Can’t wait to read about it on your blog. Best. Tomas

  3. Hi Tomas, great pictures! I agree a place that beautiful would be hard to leave. My friends Gerry and Angela O’Dowd on the Nordhavn “Celt” know your friends on Samadhi, tell them that they said hi. I wish you a safe sail to Fiji.

  4. Hi there Carine. And thanks. Samadhi are in the same marina in Papeete so I see them every day. I will of course say hello from your friends. We will part company next week as I’m heading towards Fiji and they will stay here for the hurricane season. I will no doubt meet up with them somewhere next year. Best. Tomas
